Popular Treadmill Brands
There's brands, and then there's 'brands'. So what do we mean by that? Some brands innovate, design, build fitness equipment from start to finish, while others perform a 'pick 'n mix' of the available components, put them together and stick their badge on the top.
Now there's nothing wrong with the second approach, and many of the popular names in fitness do this, and they do it well. This explains why you can sometimes find two machines looking similar despite having a different badge on the console. Add to this some companies can own several treadmill brands - such as Icon Fitness who own NordicTrack, Weslo, Proform, Freemotion and iFit, the fitness software platform for virtual and online trainers.
Companies often have a range of brands to cover different markets such as budget home fitness equipment or the commercial sector in gyms.

We've listed a range of brands across all price ranges - note, some will appear in more than one. Click on each image to find out more about their history, ethos (where appropriate!) and also their reputation for customer service where we've received feedback from treadmill users. We believe after-sales service is the test of a good brand. A company that is happy to take your money but then can't be asked to handle your calls, inquiries or complaints is not a good one in our view.
Treadmill Brands by Price Bracket
Commercial/ Top-End Treadmill Brands
Price Range: $2,000 and above (well above in some cases!)
Most commercial brands also target the domestic market, bringing their experience of producing reliable and durable machines into the home. It's not uncommon for a commercial treadmill to be in use for 20 hours a day (if it's a 24-hour gym). The technology to build the motors, drive mechanisms and belts to withstand this sort of punishment can be adapted for home use at a reduced price as it's ultimately a bigger market.
A number of brands are purely commercial only, notable Technogym and Precor. There's nothing to stop you buying a commercial model if you really want one, but be prepared to pay in excess of $9,000 :0)
Mid-Range Home Treadmills
Price Range: $500 - $2,000
The choice in this bracket is staggering - and so is the variation, The majority of treadmills sold for the home are in this sector.. At the lower end, (around $700) you can get a good, reliable machine with some useful features. As you go higher to the mid $1,000 you'll find some great models that come with some hi-tech functions you would only have found on gym machines just a few years back. As they say in the UK, 'you're spoiled for choice' in this section. But take your time and choose carefully. Some are ideal for those with limited space, or occasional users, but if you're going to run everyday, not all will be suitable.
