Horizon Fitness
The Horizon Fitness brand started in 1998 by Johnson Health Tech, based in Taiwan. Johnson is a multi-national company with a presence in the fitness industry of countries worldwide. They're involved in design, manufacture, distribution and retail - so in other words, from the drawing board to your living room!
Horizon products include treadmills, exercise bicycles, elliptical trainers, weight training machines, all sorts of training accessories, and the the odd rowing machine.
As far as treadmills are concerned, they span from the budget models starting around $599 with the T101, up to the commercial-grade Elite range costing $2,000 for the T9.
And they appear to 'put their money where their mouth is' (interesting phrase), in that they offer a lifetime warranty on the frame AND motors of ALL their machines. The rest of their models' parts are covered ranging from 1 to 3 years depending on the series.
However, and here's the rub, many treadmill users we've had contact with, said Horizon customer service was not up to scratch. In fact, some even reported Horizon tried to wriggle out of honoring their generous warranty. We looked into this further and found a few such complaints - but these were mainly historic, that is, pre-2017. More recently it seems the parent company, Johnson, has made efforts to rectify this and it appears to have worked. If you have experience of their after-sales service, please let us know.
In addition to online sales, Horizon Fitness sell via retailers across the globe in stores (remember them?). Visit their website to locate a store near you if you prefer to try before you buy.
Horizon Fitness Treadmills
All Horizon treadmills are fitted with a three-zone Variable Response Cushioning System. Horizon claim the running belt replicates what a running shoe will do for you on the road, that is, softer cushioning at the front of the belt where your foot lands, and firmer at the back where you push-off. This helps you to workout for longer with less 'wear-and-tear' on your joints - very helpful if you're a little overweight!

Horizon Fitness T101:
Rating
7.5/10
The T101 is a winner of a few 'Best Buy' awards in its time and it's not hard to see why. For the price, it has a lot to offer. The motor is very quiet, runs even and is very efficient, running a low rpm to deliver the speed.
The deck is long, measuring 20" x 55" and, as mentioned above, has the three-zone cushioning system - good news for your knees! The one-touch controls allow for easy changing of speed and incline if on a manual program, otherwise one of the 6 pre-sets will do that for you. The top speed of 10 mph and maximum 10% incline will be more than enough for most runners. Other extras include Bluetooth speakers, tablet holder and fan. All-in-all, for around $580 you get a lot for your money, |
